Sylphs | [Sylvan, Plant]

Sylph's are a miracle in scientific terms. They use methods of survival from all forms of life, both plant and animal. They can change from a giant tree to a tiny humanoid.

Sylph physiology is largely different from most any creature with the possible exception of a protozoa. The internal body of a sylph is between fifty and seventy degrees farenheit. They are warm blooded and their skin is very porous, but also excellent protection against temperature, enabling them to tolerate temperatures as little as 20 degrees farenheit and as high as 120 degrees farenheit. Their blood system consists of a manganese base that is very different from our iron based blood. A manganese blood base makes the blood clear when unoxygenated, and a translucent purple when oxygenated. This assists in their photosynthetic abilities by giving less resistance to the sunlight.

Sylphs have a very effective method of sustenance. They are photosynthetic in both forms. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen, just like plants. As a result of being in tree form to collect as much nutrients and sunlight as possible, they are mosly nocturnal. As a tree they take in nutrients from the soil, absorb water and sunlight through their leaves or skin and hair, depending on what form they are in.

Sylphs tend to move slower and react slower due to their connection with the forest (trees don't move very fast). Their perceptions of time are vastly different as a result of this as well.

Physical Description:

A sylph's natural form is that of a larger than normal (for their age) deciduous tree. They can live as many as fifteen centuries if they are not chopped down, die of parasites, or some more natural cause, such as lack of water, sunlight, or nutrition. In their natural form they still have the ability to communicate with intelligent creatures via telepathy.

A sylph's humanoid form is their social form, as sylphs are a solitary race because they are few and far between. In this form they have the mobility of an animal as well as a plants means of survival. Their humanoid form stays youthful in appearance throughout most of their life. They are between four and six feet tall, possessing green skin and green or brown hair. Each hand has three fingers and a thumb and their feet each have four toes. Their ears are more rounded than a humans, appearing ovular.
